“Monochrome” – ArtsWorcester, in collaboration with the Fitchburg Art Museum

The Monochrome exhibition is a call-and-response collaboration with the Fitchburg Arts Museum. Participating artists choose a piece from a selection of works on loan from the FAM that will serve as an inspiration for a new piece of art that uses a limited color palette.

“Swoop” was inspired by “Predator/Prey (after Oudry)” by Shelley Reed and “A Cut in the Sky” by Kenji Nakahashi. I created a relief-style mixed media image of a barred owl suddenly swooping into view—just as it happened on when I was on a walk at dusk. The deep blue of the dusky sky and the darkness of the surrounding trees mirrors the color and geometry of Nakahashi’s sky and city buildings. The dramatic appearance of the owl as a large bird of prey echos the intensity of the animals in Reed’s piece.

“Swoop” will be on view at ArtsWorcester as a part of the Monochrome exhibition starting on March 6, 2025.
